STATEMENT ON WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH FROM BBT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DANIELLE MELFI

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement on Women’s History Month:

“This month, we celebrate generations of women who have shaped our nation — and we also reckon with the first Women’s History Month in 50 years without the fundamental protections of Roe v. Wade. Throughout American history, women have come together to fight for justice and equity, and today, as our rights and freedoms are under attack, millions of women are standing united once again. President Biden and Vice President Harris are committed to defending abortion access nationwide, including by engaging with those most affected: women of color, low-income women, and those in rural communities.

“From day one, President Biden has worked to expand economic opportunity for women, tackle discrimination and gender-based violence, and has elevated women at all levels of his administration. Two years into his presidency, we have a majority-women Cabinet for the first time in history, including Vice President Harris, the first Black woman in this role in history, the majority of the president’s senior staff are women, and the Senate has confirmed 79 women nominated by the president to serve as federal judges – including Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. President Biden is committed to building on this work and standing with women across the country in support of greater access, justice, and equity for all.”
