STATEMENT ON URGENCY TO PASS THE BUILD BACK BETTER ACT IN 2022 FROM BUILDING BACK TOGETHER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DANIELLE MELFI

“In 2021, the President and leaders in Congress passed two of the most consequential pieces of economic legislation in decades that put working and middle class families first, helped power our economic recovery, and laid the groundwork for millions of good-paying jobs to fix our crumbling infrastructure so that it can support our growing economy for decades to come. In this new year, we remain committed to the same goal: building on the progress we have already made for everyday families by passing the President’s blue-collar blueprint for America – the Build Back Better Act.”

“From wildfires in Colorado to families struggling with access to child care, we know we face big challenges. That’s why we are counting on legislators in Congress to stay at the table, finalize negotiations, and pass this legislation as swiftly as possible, because we know failure is not an option. This legislation is critically needed for working and middle class families, including to protect immigrant families. While Republicans in Congress continue to oppose this bill that will lower the cost of living for American families, including on health care, prescription drugs, housing, utility bills, and more, the President and his Administration are committed to getting this plan over the finish line.”

“Building Back Together is calling on members of Congress in the Senate and the House to move this legislation forward without delay, and work to send the Build Back Better Act to the President’s desk for his signature.”
