WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement on President Biden’s announcement that after a rigorous and thorough process, he will nominate Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the United States Supreme Court:

“Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is a distinguished legal mind with the qualifications, integrity, and character to serve our country and uphold our Constitution on the Supreme Court of the United States. She has seen all aspects of our justice system up close – in her current role serving on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, as a clerk for Justice Steven Breyer, a public defender, a member of the U.S. Sentencing Commission, and with her brothers and uncles serving in law enforcement. Her career has earned her respect on both sides of the aisle. She has been confirmed on a bipartisan basis by the Senate three separate times, and we look forward to seeing her confirmed again.

“When confirmed, she will break another barrier as the first Black woman in history to serve on the Supreme Court – an inspiring and historic milestone for our nation. Furthermore, Judge Jackson shares President Biden’s commitment to our Constitution and to equal justice under the law, and understands how the Court’s work impacts everyday Americans. The Senate should move forward with a fair hearing and timely confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. There is no one more qualified to serve on our nation’s highest court.”
