STATEMENT ON POTUS SIGNING HISTORIC CARE EXECUTIVE ORDER FROM BUILDING BACK TOGETHER
WASHINGTON, D.C. — After President Biden signed a historic executive order with more than 50 directives to improve care for hard-working families while supporting care workers and family caregivers – at the first-ever White House event for care workers – Building Back Together Interim Executive Director Mayra Macías released the following statement:
“As the daughter of a home care worker and proud SEIU member, today’s announcement gives me hope for what is possible when government leaders and advocates work together. President Biden has centered the needs of families, caregivers, and care workers since day one, and this executive action is a testament to his commitment to making quality care more accessible and affordable for all.
“The president knows that working people are feeling the pain of higher child and long-term care costs, which have skyrocketed 26% and 40%, respectively, over the last decade. Today, he’s taking historic action to lower these costs and give families relief, all while supporting essential workers – a majority of them women and people of color – who care for our loved ones and keep our economy moving.”
Mayra Macías is the Interim Executive Director of Building Back Together, leading the organization’s work alongside partners to educate Americans on the positive impact of the Biden-Harris legislative agenda.
