STATEMENT ON LATEST ECONOMIC DATA FROM BUILDING BACK TOGETHER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DANIELLE MELFI

“This morning, new economic figures were released that show our economy is back on track thanks to President Biden’s decisive action to deliver economic relief to families, small businesses, and communities through the American Rescue Plan. After a health crisis that threw our economy into a recession and left families struggling to make ends meet, our economy grew faster in the first half of this year than it has in almost 40 years. We have fully made up the losses of the last 18 months and surpassed our pre-pandemic peak. And over three million jobs have been created since President Biden took office – more jobs than any other President in their first five months in history.

President Biden’s policies have brought us back from the brink of one of the worst economic crises in our nation’s history by putting checks in pockets, delivering middle class tax cuts and creating millions of good-paying jobs. And Americans understand that: consumer confidence is up across the country, along with wages, jobs, and personal income.

The Biden agenda is already building our economy back better than before, but there is still more work ahead to create an economy that rewards work and not wealth. That’s why we need President Biden’s historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal, along with his entire Building Back Better agenda, so that we can make the once-in-a-generation investment that will create millions of jobs, cut taxes for working families, and lower costs for everyday Americans.”
