STATEMENT ON HOUSE VOTE FROM BUILDING BACK TOGETHER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DANIELLE MELFI

“Today, the U.S. House of Representatives took another critical step in bringing us closer to building our nation back better. The historic investments in the Build Back Better Agenda and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal will lower the cost of essentials like health care and prescription drugs for everyday Americans, cut taxes for working families, fix what’s broken in America’s infrastructure, tackle the climate crisis, rebuild our care economy, create educational opportunity, grow our economy, and give American workers, businesses, and families the opportunity to succeed in the 21st century.

The vote today also advances critical voting rights legislation, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, to safeguard our democracy by blocking discriminatory voting laws at the state and local level from ever taking effect, ensuring that the freedom to vote is protected for all, regardless of race, language or zip code.

This moment is historic, and we applaud the Members of Congress who stood up for their constituents and voted in support of progress. We call on lawmakers in Washington to act with urgency to move these essential pieces of legislation across the finish line.”
