STATEMENT ON FIFTH CIRCUIT DACA RULING IN STATE OF TEXAS V. USA FROM BBT CHIEF STRATEGY OFFICER MAYRA MACÍAS
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following a Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruling on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, Building Back Together Chief Strategy Officer Mayra Macías released the following statement:
“For ten years, the DACA program has ensured nearly one million young people can live, work, and build a life for themselves without fear of deportation in the only country they have ever called home. Since day one, the Biden-Harris Administration has taken action to defend this program, including issuing a DACA rule, but extreme, misguided attacks against it continue. Today’s decision leaves DACA recipients with greater uncertainty about their futures and is completely at odds with the promise we made to protect them a decade ago under the leadership of then-Vice President Biden and President Obama.
“It is unacceptable that these young people have been forced to live court case to court case for a decade – and it would be shameful for us to turn our backs on them now. We continue to call on Congress to pass legislation by the end of this year to provide not only greater protections but a pathway to citizenship for all DACA recipients.”
