STATEMENT ON BUILD BACK BETTER ACT AND PARLIAMENTARIAN’S DECISION ON IMMIGRATION FROM BUILDING BACK TOGETHER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DANIELLE MELFI

“As the President has made clear repeatedly, failure to pass the Build Back Better Act is not an option. While we have made tremendous strides in our country’s economic recovery under the leadership of President Biden and Vice President Harris, this legislation is critically needed in order to lower the cost of living for American families, including on health care, prescription drugs, housing, utility bills, and more. The President has also been clear since Day One of his Administration that we need to fix our broken immigration system and provide immigration relief and a pathway to citizenship to millions of immigrants who contribute to their communities and our country every day.

“Even in the face of unrelenting opposition from Republican members of Congress who refuse to lift a finger to help give working and middle class families more breathing room, the President and his Administration are working tirelessly with leaders in Congress to move negotiations forward and ensure this bill gets passed into law as swiftly as possible. It’s essential that we prioritize immigration relief and a pathway to citizenship for millions of immigrants in the wake of another incredibly disappointing decision from the Senate Parliamentarian. We will continue fighting to ensure we provide relief and protections to Dreamers, TPS holders, farm workers and other essential workers.

“Building Back Together is urging legislators in the Senate and the House to swiftly move these priorities forward, and send the Build Back Better Act to the President’s desk for his signature.”
