STATEMENT ON BLACK HISTORY MONTH FROM BUILDING BACK TOGETHER

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Executive Director Mayra Macías released the following statement marking the beginning of Black History Month:

“The Black community’s contributions and investments to our nation are embedded throughout every coastline, mountain range, and farmland in the United States. Black History Month is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate these contributions while also reminding ourselves of the generational injustices and struggles many Black Americans have had to overcome. This month serves as a time for us to honor the past, acknowledge the present, and strive for a more equitable and inclusive tomorrow.

“While there is still more work to do, President Biden and Vice President Harris have prioritized racial justice since day one of their administration, and over the last three years have invested in initiatives focused on advancing equity and opportunity for Black Americans across the country. From lowering the cost of and expanding access to health care, to upgrading critical infrastructure in communities long neglected, and ensuring that our government reflects the people it serves by confirming a record-breaking number of Black judges — including Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.

“President Biden and Vice President Harris are committed to advancing their racial justice agenda and working with Black Americans to accomplish more in the months and years to come.”
