STATEMENT ON BLACK HISTORY MONTH FROM BBT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DANIELLE MELFI
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement marking the beginning of Black History Month:
“Our nation would not be where it is today if it weren’t for the leadership and activism of the Black community throughout our history. This month, we celebrate this legacy, reckon with generations of injustice and discrimination, and work to right generations-old wrongs by advancing equity, racial justice, and opportunity for Black Americans.
“These principles have served as a north star for President Biden and Vice President Harris, who have centered racial justice in the work of their administration from day one. In just two years, they have built an economy where Black families and small business owners can thrive, invested in our infrastructure, took historic steps to tackle the climate crisis, and lowered health care costs – as well as delivering gun safety action, marijuana reform, historically low Black unemployment, funding for HBCUs, student loan relief, policing reform, antilynching legislation, and protections for our democracy. Their work is far from over, and they will continue to build on this progress in the years to come to create greater opportunities for Black Americans.”
