STATEMENT ON BIPARTISAN INFRASTRUCTURE DEAL FROM BUILDING BACK TOGETHER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DANIELLE MELFI

“Today, President Biden and a bipartisan group of Senators took a critical step in delivering on the promise to Build Back Better. This historic bipartisan infrastructure deal would create good-paying union jobs fixing what’s broken in America, and help us to build an economy that is stronger, more sustainable, more equitable, and more resilient for years to come.

This deal is truly historic, reflecting the largest-ever federal investments in public transit and clean drinking water, the largest investment in passenger rail since the creation of Amtrak, the largest investment in bridges since the construction of the highway system, and the creation of universal internet access for American households. Critically, these investments will replace dangerous lead pipes and help us to take on the climate crisis by making the largest investment in clean energy transmission and electric vehicle infrastructure in American history.

As the deal is taken up by the Senate for consideration, we encourage leaders in Washington to act with urgency to make good on these investments, and to move swiftly to deliver on the entire Build Back Better Agenda.”
