STATEMENT FROM BBT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DANIELLE MELFI ON PRESIDENT BIDEN’S DRUG PRICING REFORM EXECUTIVE ORDER

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement after President Biden announced he will sign an executive order directing HHS to explore additional actions to lower prescription drug costs:

“Since day one, President Biden has fought to make sure working families can access the care they need at prices they can afford. Today’s executive order, which calls on HHS to explore further actions to lower costs, builds on steps the Biden-Harris Administration has already taken to lower health care and prescription drug costs – including through the Inflation Reduction Act, which caps drug prices for seniors and locks in lower health care premiums for 13 million families.

“As Medicare Open Enrollment Season begins tomorrow, President Biden has a plan to further strengthen Medicare and Social Security and lower costs for seniors and working families – in sharp contrast to the approach of MAGA Republicans in Congress. Instead of supporting cost-cutting action and increasing affordable health care access, every single MAGA Republican in Congress opposed the Inflation Reduction Act. Their MAGA agenda would repeal this historic legislation, raising the cost of health care and prescription drugs for working families. MAGA Republicans in Congress have made it clear that they are on the side of Big Pharma – while President Biden is on the side of working families.”
