STATEMENT FROM BBT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DANIELLE MELFI ON BIPARTISAN CONFIRMATION OF ATF DIRECTOR STEVE DETTELBACH

WASHINGTON, D.C. — After the Senate voted on a bipartisan basis to confirm Steve Dettelbach, President Biden’s nominee to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement:

“It has been seven years since we have had a Senate-confirmed ATF director – and in the ongoing fight against gun violence and domestic terrorism, it has never been more crucial to have a strong, experienced leader in this role. Steve Dettelbach is an eminently qualified career prosecutor with decades of experience working directly with law enforcement, including ATF agents. We commend the bipartisan Senate confirmation of Dettelbach to lead the ATF in its vital work to protect our communities. The ATF’s mission is central to President Biden’s work to advance public safety, and Dettelbach will play a key role in advancing the Biden-Harris Administration’s plans to reduce gun crime and fight domestic terrorism — including through the implementation of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.”
