STATEMENT AHEAD OF KEY VOTE ON FREEDOM TO VOTE ACT FROM BUILDING BACK TOGETHER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DANIELLE MELFI

“As the Biden-Harris Administration has made clear, we must keep fighting to defend and strengthen our democracy. That’s why, ahead of this week’s key procedural vote on the Freedom to Vote Act, we’re urging members of Congress to advance this legislation that includes necessary reforms that would ensure every American is able to exercise their fundamental right to vote.”

“This legislation would break down barriers that too many voters face by expanding early voting, making Election Day a federal holiday, requiring states to have automatic voter registration, and more — in addition to key reforms including putting an end to partisan gerrymandering. Building Back Together is proud to be part of the fight to expand access to our democracy, including with our work through the Language Justice Committee. Now, we’re asking leaders in Washington to vote to move this legislation forward and take a major step towards giving fair access to our democracy to all Americans.”
