Washington, D.C. — On the nine-year anniversary of the creation of the DACA program, Building Back Together, a 501(c)(4) not-for-profit focused on advancing progressive policies in the Build Back Better agenda, today released a new 30-second digital video highlighting the importance of Dreamers in our society and economy and calling on Congress to pass the American Dream and Promise Act to protect Dreamers once and for all.

Building Back Together also released a new polling memo today showing Americans are unified in their support for extending DACA and making it permanent by passing the American Dream and Promise Act. A June 2021 poll of likely voters finds citizenship for Dreamers and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders is supported by Democrats, Republicans and Independents by large margins.

“It’s rare that we see such strong bipartisan consensus as we do for our Dreamers,” said Matt Barreto, Building Back Together Senior Advisor and Pollster. “For years, support for these young people has reached above 80 percent, and even three-quarters of Republicans embrace the DACA program. On the 9th anniversary of this life-changing program, it’s time that we act to make protections for Dreamers permanent by passing the American Dream and Promise Act.”

This effort from Building Back Together builds on the Administration’s commitment to establishing relief for Dreamers and a pathway to citizenship. Today, Vice President Kamala Harris hosted a roundtable discussion with Dreamers and TPS holders who work in the care economy. Building Back Together echoes the Vice President’s call on the Senate to pass the American Dream and Promise Act and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, which would create a visa program enabling more than one million undocument farm workers to apply for legal status. Both of these bills have already passed in the House with bipartisan support.

“Early on, I was involved in activism around immigration reform, marching in Chicago with Dick Durbin over 15 years ago. Today I’m at Building Back Together advocating for those same communities, and with a President and Vice President in the White House who are aggressively advocating for the same mission,” said Building Back Together Chief Strategy Officer Mayra Macías. “Immigration is not a siloed issue, it’s critical to the broader Build Back Better Agenda, and the White House is centering that intersectionality — Secretary Walsh met with Voces de la Frontera in Milwaukee, Secretary Buttigieg met with essential workers at DCA airport, and Vice President Harris is meeting with Dreamers today on the DACA anniversary.”

As reported by Newsweek, Building Back Together supports the White House in prioritizing protection, support and relief for Dreamers.
