JUDGE JACKSON DISPLAYS POISE, UNDERLINES IMPARTIALITY ON DAY TWO OF CONFIRMATION HEARINGS

 Judge Jackson: “As a lawyer, and as a citizen, I care deeply about our Constitution and about the rights that make us free.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement on the second day of Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearings:

“Today, Judge Jackson’s grace and poise, deep knowledge of the law, and even-handed approach were on full display as she answered questions over the course of more than 13 hours. She was clear on her unwavering commitment to impartiality and serving as an even-handed Supreme Court Justice who would rule based on the facts and the law. She laid out her experience from all parts of the legal system, from her perspective as a federal public defender to her near-decade of service on the federal bench.

“She gave substantive and comprehensive responses to each and every question, discussing in detail the impartial process she uses when ruling on cases before her and her understanding of how her decisions impact the American people. Judge Jackson demonstrated that she will be a jurist in the mold of her mentor, Justice Stephen Breyer. She calmly and precisely dismantled baseless attacks on her record. And Judge Jackson shared how her personal story – from growing up as the daughter of parents who endured the Jim Crow South, to her brother’s and uncles’ service in law enforcement – has shaped and motivated her throughout her life.

“As she told members of the Judiciary Committee yesterday, Judge Jackson has devoted her career to standing up for the rule of law and is more than prepared to serve her country on the Supreme Court. We look forward to her confirmation by the Senate very soon.”
