BBT STATEMENT ON HOUSE REPUBLICANS VOTING TO REPEAL INFLATION REDUCTION ACT PROVISIONS THAT MAKE ULTRA WEALTHY PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement after House Republicans voted to repeal key provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act that ensure the ultra wealthy and big corporations pay their fair share in taxes:
“While this vote is not unexpected from a MAGA-led Republican caucus, it is deeply disappointing and comes at the expense of working Americans. The Inflation Reduction Act President Biden signed finally takes action to make our tax system fairer and ensure big corporations pay what they owe – without raising taxes on anyone making less than $400,000 a year. By voting to roll back these tax fairness policies, Republicans in Congress are supporting tax loopholes for the ultra wealthy and big corporations that would add $114 billion to the deficit.
“This vote was not about protecting their middle class constituents, who won’t see their taxes increased a dime under the president’s plan. It was about shielding wealthy tax cheats – pure and simple. Unlike MAGA Republicans, President Biden and his allies in Congress are fighting to lower costs for working Americans and grow our economy from the bottom up and middle out. Middle class families will remember who stood up for them when it mattered – and who stood on the side of the ultra wealthy.”
