BBT CELEBRATES HISTORIC, BIPARTISAN CONFIRMATION OF FUTURE SUPREME COURT JUSTICE KETANJI BROWN JACKSON

Voting to confirm Judge Jackson, Democratic and Republican senators say she’s “exemplary,” “a true public servant,” and “very impressive.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement following the bipartisan Senate vote to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman ever nominated, to the United States Supreme Court:

“This is a joyous and historic moment for our country, as Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is set to make history as the first Black woman to serve on the highest court in the land. Today, we celebrate the leadership of countless Black women activists and Black women-led organizations who have been laying the groundwork for years to make this moment possible.

“In Judge Jackson, President Biden fulfilled his promise and nominated an eminently qualified jurist with broad experience across the legal system. Not only is she a brilliant legal mind, but she is dedicated to our Constitution and has a deep commitment to equal justice under the law.

“Judge Jackson has earned the widespread support of Americans across the country, and her personal story has resonated with millions. The American people have seen through the baseless and offensive attacks peddled by Republican senators who chose to engage in political theater instead of a serious evaluation of Judge Jackson’s qualifications for the role. She has also earned a wide range of support and endorsements, including from professionals across our legal system, dozens of state attorneys general, the Fraternal Order of Police, survivor justice organizations, and more. As Judge Jackson prepares to be sworn in as our next justice, our nation’s highest court will soon look a little more like America – something we can all celebrate and be proud of.”
