On LABOR DAY, BUILDING BACK TOGETHER CELEBRATES THE TRADE UNION MOVEMENT THAT BUILT AMERICA’S MIDDLE-CLASS

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In celebration of Labor Day, Building Back Together Communications Director Blake Goodman released the following statement:

“Every year, we celebrate the important contributions of our allies in organized labor, and this year is no exception. From building tradesmen to teachers, nurses to service workers, and public employees to union printers like my grandfather — our economy runs on unionized work. Moreover, the labor movement has given us all so many important wins in the workplace — from the eight hour work day to the advent of the weekend. Today and every day, Americans across the economic spectrum owe our allies in organized labor our gratitude.

“President Biden and Vice President Harris are leading the most pro-union, pro-worker administration of all time — full stop — leading to historic increases in union membership, wage growth across both union and non-union workers, record numbers of women joining the workforce, and a generational investment in the clean energy economy of the future to be fueled by union workers and apprentices. From Vice President Harris’ tie-breaking vote to pass $1.4 trillion in COVID relief funding, which saved the pensions of more than one million union members, to President Biden’s historic visit to the UAW picket line during the Stand Up Strike — this administration has continued to stand up to greedy corporations on behalf of workers again and again.

“As President Biden says, Wall Street didn’t build this country, the middle class did — and unions built the middle class. At BBT, we’re proud to stand in solidarity with all of our brothers and sisters in the union movement today and every day, fighting for better wages, improved working standards, and an economy that works for everyone.”
