BUILDING BACK TOGETHER ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Building Back Together announced Mayra Macías as its new Executive Director. Macías has helped lead Building Back Together since its 2021 launch, first as Chief Strategy Officer and then as Interim Executive Director.

Macías has led the organization’s work to educate middle-class and working people across the country on the Biden-Harris legislative agenda, including leading the organization’s outreach work on landmark legislation such as the Inflation Reduction Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, the PACT Act, and more. Under Macías’ leadership, Building Back Together launched its innovative Latino Always-On program in April 2021 to help reach Latino audiences year-round on the positive impacts of the Biden-Harris agenda for the Latino community.

“It is a privilege to serve as Building Back Together’s next Executive Director,” said Mayra Macías. “When BBT was founded, we hit the ground running to create an unprecedented partner network to rally around the Biden-Harris legislative agenda, and I am excited to expand that work and help mobilize this network around the broad impacts of this agenda. From lowering the cost of insulin to expanding health services for our veterans to creating millions of jobs, the effects of the president’s agenda are personal stories that need to be shared and uplifted to all communities across the country. I am particularly excited to make sure we are reaching communities of color with the story of economic impact as a result of the Biden-Harris Administration’s policies.”

Prior to her time with Building Back Together, Macías was a middle school Language Arts teacher in Miami, Florida’s ’s Liberty-City neighborhood. As a teacher in a historically Black, underserved public school system, Macías became galvanized to change the system and ultimately left teaching to join President Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign. She is the former Executive Director of Latino Victory Project and former Political Director of the Florida Democratic Party – the first Latina to ever hold the position.

“Mayra Macías is a leader who excels at building broad coalitions united with a common goal. That is the skill that makes Building Back Together so effective at communicating the positive impacts of the Biden-Harris legislative agenda,” said Paulette Aniskoff, Senior Advisor for Building Back Together. “Mayra understands how to meet people where they are to be effective at getting BBT’s message across. Under Mayra’s leadership, BBT has already made critical investments to reach communities across the country – particularly communities of color – to share how their lives are changing for the better under the Biden-Harris Administration. I’m thrilled to see the future of BBT with Mayra as Executive Director.”

Building Back Together serves as a messaging and organizing hub for national and in-state allies to advance the legislative agenda of the Biden-Harris Administration, working alongside allied partners to educate communities about the Biden-Harris agenda. Since 2021, Building Back Together has spent nearly $40 million in paid media on TV, digital, radio, print, and billboards, communicating directly with key audiences in 10 states and Washington, D.C. with an emphasis on communities of color. BBT has also built a robust partner network, mobilizing more than 200 organizations across issues and constituencies to support the Biden-Harris Administration’s legislative agenda.
