STATEMENT ON SENATE VOTE ON VOTING RIGHTS FROM BUILDING BACK TOGETHER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DANIELLE MELFI

“As President Biden has consistently made clear, the fundamental right to vote is the heart of our democracy. Yet last night, despite historic bipartisan support for voting rights reform, 50 Republican Senators unanimously voted to block legislation to protect the freedom to vote and break down the barriers that too many voters continue to face. This comes as Republican legislators at every level are working to undermine our elections and pushing to enact hundreds of new restrictions on voting that would impact tens of millions of Americans.”

“But as the President has also made clear, the Biden-Harris Administration is committed to using every tool at its disposal to ensure every American is able to exercise their right to vote. And we are not stopping our work to expand access to our democracy, including through the  Language Justice Committee. This is a fight that has been carried forward for years, and we have no intention of being deterred now.”
