VP HARRIS VISITING MIAMI, FL TO ANNOUNCE NEW INVESTMENTS IN COASTAL RESILIENCE

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Vice President Harris will visit Miami, Florida, to announce a new $562 million federal investment for climate resiliency  in 149 coastal communities across 30 states and territories – including Florida. This funding will help communities prepare for increased flooding, sea-level rise, and more intense storms, and improve state and local response to extreme weather events. This announcement follows President Biden signing a new executive order to advance environmental justice nationwide.

“As a former teacher in Liberty City, I am thrilled to see the Biden-Harris Administration continue its historic investments in coastal infrastructure, which will keep our communities safe during extreme weather events,” said Mayra Macías, Interim Executive Director at Building Back Together. “For far too long, Black and Latino coastal communities have been disproportionately impacted by extreme weather events, and today’s investments — along with the executive order signed by President Biden earlier today — will make major strides to advance environmental justice and support Floridians on the coast.”
