STATEMENT ON VENEZUELA TPS REDESIGNATION FROM BUILDING BACK TOGETHER

WASHINGTON, D.C. Following the announcement from the Biden-Harris Administration that Temporary Protected Status will be redesignated for more than 400,000 Venezuelans currently living in the United States, Building Back Together Interim Executive Director Mayra Macías released the following statement:

“The announcement from the Biden-Harris Administration redesignating Temporary Protected Status for almost 500,000 Venezuelans currently in the United States is a historic decision that will allow thousands of Venezuelan families to live and work lawfully, free from the threat of deportation. The United States is a nation of immigrants, and expanding TPS protections to Venezuelans is a reflection of our values and commitment to welcoming families fleeing violence and persecution.”

“With this announcement, nearly half a million Venezuelans will be able to obtain work permits, allowing them to contribute to the communities they now reside in. President Biden is committed to expanding legal pathways to immigration and calling on Congress to fix our broken immigration system once and for all.”
