STATEMENT ON SUPREME COURT’S DECISION IN ALLIANCE FOR HIPPOCRATIC MEDICINE V. FDA

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Interim Executive Director Mayra Macías released the following statement after the Supreme Court granted an emergency stay application in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA, preventing a ban on mifepristone from taking effect:

“Today’s ruling is a welcome but temporary relief. While mifepristone remains safe and available, we know that MAGA extremists are determined to ban this medication, and abortion outright, in all fifty states. Mifepristone has a safer record than Tylenol and is used for routine miscarriage management — and yet it has become the target of extremists hellbent on stripping reproductive care as we know it.

“This case not only threatens access to mifepristone, but also the evidence-based authority of the FDA. The Biden-Harris Administration stands with the majority of people across our country who strongly oppose threats to our fundamental rights and freedoms, and will continue to fight politically-motivated attacks on reproductive care.”
