STATEMENT ON RISE IN U.S. CONSUMER CONFIDENCE FROM BUILDING BACK TOGETHER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DANIELLE MELFI

“Today’s new Consumer Confidence Index is the latest sign that the historic economic recovery under the Biden-Harris Administration is reaching families across the country. As we work to emerge from the pandemic, including getting the Delta variant under control, American consumers are feeling more optimistic and confident about the current state and trajectory of our economy and their personal finances.

Since day one, the President has worked tirelessly to get shots in arms, deliver relief to families, and get Americans back to work — including creating nearly 5 million jobs. Today’s Consumer Confidence Index is the latest evidence that the Administration’s strategy to beat COVID-19 and jumpstart the economy is working. Just last week, we saw that jobless claims have fallen by more than 90% from their pandemic high to the lowest weekly number of new claims since the pandemic began. The next step is for Congress to pass the Build Back Better Agenda to create good-paying jobs, lower the cost of everyday essentials, and ensure the ultra-wealthy and large corporations finally pay their fair share in order to build our economy back stronger and better for every family in our country.”
