STATEMENT ON MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY FROM BBT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DANIELLE MELFI

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement on Martin Luther King Jr. Day:

“Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a civil rights giant and tireless advocate for racial justice. In the 55 years since Dr. King’s assassination, we have made historic progress toward a more just America — including under President Biden’s leadership – but we know there is more to be done to achieve equity for Black Americans.

“Until all Americans are protected from discrimination, free from harassment and violence, and have their sacred right to vote protected, Dr. King’s work continues. The Biden-Harris Administration is putting racial equity front and center in its work to build a stronger economy and better infrastructure, tackle the climate crisis, lower health care costs, and provide student debt relief in order to realize the promise of America that Dr. King fought for.”
