STATEMENT ON HOUSE REPUBLICANS’ 100-DAY FAILURE TO PUT FORWARD BUDGET PROPOSAL

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Just over 100 days into the House Republican majority, Speaker Kevin McCarthy has yet to release a comprehensive budget proposal. This Saturday, April 15, marked yet another budget deadline that House Republicans failed to meet. In response, Building Back Together Interim Executive Director Mayra Macías released the following statement:

“100 days of the House Republican majority have come and gone without a comprehensive budget proposal. It’s long past time for Republicans in Congress to be honest with the American people about what’s on their chopping block. They’ve threatened Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid, and other essential programs over and over, yet refuse to go on the record about the cuts they want to see. President Biden put forward his budget plan – which protects these programs, lowers the deficit, and doesn’t raise taxes on the middle class – more than a month ago. House Republicans owe it to the American people to do the same.”
