STATEMENT ON FY2024 BUDGET PASSAGE FROM BUILDING BACK TOGETHER
Six-bill budget package will make breathing room for families, create good-paying jobs for all, keep communities safe, defend reproductive health care
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Executive Director Mayra Macías released the following statement after President Biden signed the FY2024 budget:
“Thanks to President Biden, Majority Leader Schumer, Minority Leader Jeffries and allies in Congress, the federal government finally has a budget after nearly a full year of continuing resolutions, shutdown threats, and chaos led by MAGA Republicans in Congress.
“To say this budget was passed under the most grueling circumstances possible would be an understatement. At every turn, MAGA Republicans in Congress failed to do their Constitutional duty and were all too willing to gut programs that Americans rely on the most to force through their extreme agenda. Meanwhile, Democrats in Congress secured an increase of $1 billion for child care and Head Start funding, maintained investments in K-12 schools and higher education, and rejected harmful poison pills attempting to block access to abortion services.
“We are grateful to Democrats in Congress who stood up for hardworking families time and time again to make breathing room in their household budgets, expand child care and Head Start programs, and protect women’s rights. We can only hope that Republicans in Congress will be more willing to legislate instead of playing politics and threatening our economic recovery in the months to come.”
