STATEMENT ON ANNIVERSARY OF JANUARY 6 FROM BBT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DANIELLE MELFI

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement on the second anniversary of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol:

“As President Biden has said often, January 6 was one of the darkest days in the history of our nation. Our democracy was tested, but it endured. Today, we remember the first responders whose lives were lost, express our deep gratitude to the heroes who bravely defended our Capitol, and resolve to protect our democracy and heal the divides in our country to ensure this never happens again.

“In the last two years, President Biden has taken action to protect our right to free and fair elections, including by signing the Electoral Count Act into law. We know the work to heal the soul of our nation is not complete, and the president is committed to doing everything in his power to protect our rights and freedoms – including the right to cast a free and informed ballot – in the months and years to come.”
