STATEMENT ON 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF ROE V. WADE FROM BBT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DANIELLE MELFI

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement on the 50th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision:

“On what should have been the 50th anniversary of protections for our fundamental rights and freedoms, today we instead face the unacceptable consequences of overturning Roe v. Wade. Since before conservatives on the Supreme Court struck down Roe, the Biden-Harris Administration has taken action to protect the right to abortion and reproductive health care through executive orders and work with state and local leaders across the country. These actions have defended the right to travel across state lines to seek care, expanded access to contraception, and supported providers and clinics with training and resources.

“But threats to reproductive care remain – including from House Republicans, who passed multiple bills this month alone to restrict care and criminalize patients and doctors. President Biden and Vice President Harris stand with the majority of Americans who oppose these efforts to extend government oversight into personal, private decisions. The work to end these extreme policies and build a future with greater rights and access continues.”
