STATEMENT FROM BUILDING BACK TOGETHER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DANIELLE MELFI ON FAILED SENATE VOTE TO CODIFY ROE V. WADE

WASHINGTON, D.C. — After today’s failed vote in the Senate on the Women’s Health Protection Act, legislation that would codify Roe v. Wade into federal law as the MAGA party begins to ramp up their push for a possible nationwide ban on abortion, Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement:

Today’s vote is proof that we need more allies who will work with the Biden-Harris Administration to protect the freedom to access abortion and reproductive health care. Extreme MAGA politicians have set their sights on a nationwide ban on abortion without exceptions, a move that would restrict freedoms that have been law for half a century, criminalize those who seek and perform abortions, and place the government in charge of health decisions that should only be between a person and their doctor. Passing legislation to protect access to essential health care services and reproductive health care across the country is critical. The Biden-Harris Administration has opposed these extreme restrictions since Day One and is committed to defending the right to access abortion.”
