Statement from BBT Executive Director Danielle Melfi on Supreme Court Decision in Biden v. Texas

“As a nation, we are shaped by courageous people from around the world who come to our borders in search of refuge – and deserve to be met with a fair and humane asylum process. Since their inception under the previous administration, the Migrant Protection Protocols have been at odds with President Biden’s call for a more fair, humane, and efficient U.S. immigration system. Today’s decision is a victory for those left stranded in Mexico by this cruel policy and their families. 

“As we celebrate the Court’s ruling today, our work continues. President Biden remains committed to reforming our broken immigration system, including by expanding lawful pathways to citizenship, building safe, orderly, and humane asylum processes, and executing a comprehensive border strategy as we continue to reckon with the cruel and inhumane policies of the previous administration.”
