STATEMENT FROM BBT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DANIELLE MELFI AFTER SENATE PASSAGE OF INFLATION REDUCTION ACT

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement after the U.S. Senate passed the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022:

“This is a historic moment for our country, our planet, and the American people that has been decades in the making. The Inflation Reduction Act is a major breakthrough that will deliver on President Biden’s vision for our country: lowering health care, prescription drug, and energy costs while fighting climate change and creating good-paying union jobs. It will give families more breathing room in their budgets, won’t raise taxes on anyone making less than $400,000 a year, and is fully paid for by ensuring the wealthiest Americans and large corporations pay their fair share.

“Incredibly, while inflation remains the top issue facing the American people, Senate Republicans unanimously opposed the Inflation Reduction Act, proving once again that they’re on the side of wealthy corporations, not working families. We applaud Senate Democrats for passing this crucial legislation, and urge the House to send it to President Biden’s desk.”
