STATEMENT FROM BBT CHIEF STRATEGY OFFICER MAYRA MACÍAS ON DHS ISSUING JONES ACT WAIVER FOR PUERTO RICO

WASHINGTON, D.C. — After the Biden-Harris Administration announced it will issue a targeted and temporary Jones Act waiver to ensure diesel fuel can reach the people of Puerto Rico, Building Back Together Chief Strategy Officer Mayra Macías released the following statement:

“This targeted and temporary waiver will allow the people of Puerto Rico to access diesel fuel to power generators and essential facilities in their recovery effort, providing relief to those suffering in the wake of this devastating storm.

“Since before Hurricane Fiona made landfall, President Biden has been working around the clock to support the island as it prepares and recovers – including by approving an expedited major disaster declaration, sending FEMA aid, and fully funding recovery efforts in all municipalities. President Biden remains committed to assisting all Americans affected by extreme weather and natural disasters.”
