PRESIDENT BIDEN’S 2023 BUDGET OUTLINES HIS FOCUS ON GROWING OUR ECONOMY, CUTTING COSTS, LOWERING THE DEFICIT

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement after the announcement of President Biden’s Budget for Fiscal Year 2023:

“From day one, President Biden has used every tool at his disposal to take on the pandemic and build an economic recovery that benefits all Americans. In 2021, under the President’s leadership, our economy grew at the fastest rate in nearly 40 years. We created the most jobs ever in a single year, and the unemployment rate fell at the fastest pace ever recorded. President Biden’s economic policies are delivering real results, all while spending less than the previous Administration.

“President Biden’s 2023 budget is a bold blueprint for how we build on this progress and fight for working families, boosting wages and creating good-paying jobs, while ensuring the wealthiest Americans and large corporations pay their fair share. It complements the President’s agenda to lower costs for families, including by bringing down the cost of child care, health care and prescription drugs, housing, and utility bills, and by strengthening our domestic manufacturing and supply chains. The President’s budget makes critical investments to keep our communities safe, increase access to mental health services, bolster our national security, protect our elections and the right to vote, tackle climate change, and more.

“While his predecessor’s tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy added $2 trillion to the debt, increasing the deficit every single year he was in office, President Biden is delivering on his promises to the American people while slashing the deficit by more than $1.3 trillion – the largest single-year decline in history. As the President’s 2023 budget reflects, the Biden-Harris Administration is building an economy that rewards work, not wealth, and that ensures everyone has the opportunity to make it in America.”
