Releasing up to 1 million barrels of oil per day from U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve and working towards American energy independence will fuel our economy and cut costs
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement on President Biden’s announcement of aggressive new actions to lower gas prices and achieve American energy independence:
“Today’s announcement underscores President Biden’s laser focus on lowering prices for American families. The President is using every tool at his disposal to ease the pain Americans are feeling at the pump by immediately increasing the supply of oil and fast-tracking our transition to a clean energy future and American energy independence.
“President Biden has already released more than 90 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, and the President’s commitment today marks the largest release of oil reserves in history. President Biden is standing up to oil companies that are price-gouging consumers, and he’s calling on Congress to levy fees on companies sitting on public land but refusing to step up production. True energy independence means investing in clean energy made here in the U.S. That’s why the President is fighting for his plan to accelerate clean energy investments that will create good-paying, union jobs right here in America and reduce our reliance on oil.
“Together, these aggressive actions will save American families money in the immediate future and over the long term, and we urge members of Congress on both sides of the aisle to work with President Biden on these priorities in order to bring down the cost of living for families across the country.”
