PRESIDENT BIDEN ANNOUNCES NEARLY 50 MILLION AMERICAN FAMILIES NOW ELIGIBLE FOR FREE INTERNET THANKS TO BIPARTISAN INFRASTRUCTURE LAW 

48 million low-income families in all fifty states eligible to receive free high-speed internet

WASHINGTON, D.C. — As the President said today, access to high-speed internet in the 21st century is a basic necessity, not a luxury for students, workers, seniors, and more. Thanks to President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) provides nearly 50 million low-income households $30/month off their internet bills. Today, President Biden and Vice President Harris announced they have secured commitments from 20 major internet providers to cap high-speed internet plans at $30/month for ACP-eligible families, meaning that these households will be eligible for free, high-speed internet in their homes. This effort to expand access to the internet at higher speeds and lower costs is part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s broader work to lower prices and increase internet service quality across the country. The Biden-Harris Administration is closing the digital divide and expanding opportunity for low-income households in all fifty states.

Today’s announcement is just one example of how the Biden-Harris Administration is laser-focused on lowering prices and ensuring cost is not a barrier to opportunity in America,” said Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi. “President Biden is committed to building on the progress delivered by his Bipartisan Infrastructure Law by passing additional legislation to further lower costs – and combating the extreme MAGA agenda pushed by politicians who are intent on passing measures that would raise taxes on millions of working and middle class Americans and sunset Medicare and Social Security.”
