NEW POLLING: CONGRESSIONAL GOP PUSHES DEEPLY UNPOPULAR  PLAN THAT WOULD RAISE TAXES, SUNSET MEDICARE & SOCIAL SECURITY

Meanwhile, large majorities favor President Biden’s plans to lower cost of living for families

WASHINGTON, D.C. —  Today, Navigator Research released new polling underscoring the deep unpopularity across ideological lines of the “Rescue America” plan proposed by Republican Senator Rick Scott. Majorities of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans oppose key planks of the plan, which would raise taxes on millions of working and middle class families and sunset programs like Medicare and Social Security. Meanwhile, President Biden’s plan to lower the cost of health care, prescription drugs, and energy bills continues to enjoy widespread support, with Americans approving of his agenda by a 45-point margin.

New polling from Navigator Research highlights the unpopularity of the agenda:

  • By a 34-point margin, Americans oppose this plan that would raise taxes on millions of working families and sunset programs like Social Security and Medicare.
    • Democrats oppose this dangerous agenda by a 48-point margin.
    • Independents oppose this dangerous agenda by a 43-point margin.
    • And even Republicans oppose this dangerous agenda by a 16-point margin

  • Majorities of Americans oppose major planks of the agenda:
    • 75% of Americans oppose ending programs like Social Security and Medicare by 2028.
    • 71% of Americans oppose raising taxes on over half of Americans, including seniors, families with children, and Americans making less than $40,000 a year.
    • 66% of Americans oppose eliminating the U.S. Department of Education which would cut funding for public education.
    • 62% of Americans oppose ending the Affordable Care Act which would remove protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
    • 58% of Americans oppose cutting funding for the IRS and allowing the wealthy and large corporations to get away with not paying the taxes they owe.
  • This data is in line with other polling showing the deep unpopularity of what Republicans in Congress have proposed:
    • Courier: “The GOP plan is universally unpopular with 71% of voters, including 62% of Republicans, stating opposition to the plan. Only 15% of respondents support it.”
    • Courier: “Among independent voters, the plan is electoral poison for Republicans with 47% of independent voters saying the plan would make them less likely to vote for Republican candidates in November.”
