JUDGE JACKSON SHOWCASES DEEP EXPERIENCE, EXCEPTIONAL QUALIFICATIONS ON DAY ONE OF CONFIRMATION HEARINGS

Judge Jackson: “I will work productively to support and defend the Constitution and this grand experiment of American democracy that has endured over these past 246 years.”

Retired Bush Appointee Judge Thomas Griffith: “Judge Jackson is an independent jurist who adjudicates based on the facts and the law and not as a partisan.”

Former Harvard Law School Classmate Professor Lisa Fairfax: “What she gives to her family, her friends, she also gives to the law, to this country.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement on the first day of Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearings:

“Today, Judge Jackson, one of our nation’s brightest legal minds, showcased for members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the American people her extensive qualifications and her deep commitment to the Constitution. These hearings are an opportunity for Judge Jackson to share her approach to the law, her deep experience, and her personal story — and today she shined.

“We heard directly from Judge Thomas Griffith, a retired Bush appointee to the D.C. Circuit who has served alongside Judge Jackson, praising her impartial approach to the law, and from University of Pennsylvania Law professor Lisa Fairfax, Judge Jackson’s former Harvard Law School classmate and friend of 35 years. Most importantly, we heard directly from Judge Jackson herself, as she spoke not only about her approach to the law, but also her commitment to justice, impartiality, and upholding the Constitution.

“President Biden chose an exceptional nominee in Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. She has more judicial experience than four current Supreme Court Justices had when they were nominated – combined — and she has a personal story that resonates with millions of Americans. We look forward to hearing more from Judge Jackson in the coming days and to seeing her confirmed by the Senate soon after.”
