ICYMI: POTUS VISITS ROCKY MOUNT, NC AS PART OF “INVESTING IN AMERICA” TOUR TO HIGHLIGHT WORKFORCE TRAINING PROGRAMS

WASHINGTON, D.C. — As part of the White House’s “Investing in America” tour on Friday, President Joe Biden visited Nash Community College in Rocky Mount, NC to discuss how career-connected learning and workforce training programs are preparing students for good-paying jobs in North Carolina and nationwide.

Thanks to President Biden’s economic agenda, over $5 billion have been invested in 158 infrastructure projects in the state – from clean drinking water projects to rebuilding roads and bridges – to keep families safe and create good-paying union jobs.

In Rocky Mount, Biden highlighted career-connected learning and workforce training for students. Since 2021, businesses such as Wolfspeed, VinFast, Toyota and Siemens pledged a collective $16 billion in spending on jobs in North Carolina that don’t require four-year degrees.

The Bidens, accompanied by Governor Roy Cooper, Congressman Don Davis, and Mayor Sandy Roberson met with students while touring the continuing education facility at Nash Community College in Rocky Mount after lunch. Students demonstrated some of the robotics lab equipment to the group. Nash Community College received $23.7 million to train students for clean energy jobs from Biden’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package.

President Joe Biden on Friday afternoon used the advanced manufacturing center at Nash Community College as a place to emphasize his belief that a manufacturing innovation boom is occurring throughout America, not just in North Carolina, and that investment in this undertaking needs to continue.

“It is almost indescribable. I have spent my whole career talking. It is almost hard to comprehend that we have both the president and the first lady. The first time a sitting president and the first lady have come to a North Carolina community college in the history of histories,” Hunnicutt said.
