ICYMI: NEW POLLING: FREEDOM TO VOTE ACT IS SUPPORTED BY TWO IN THREE AMERICANS

Three in four Americans support protecting the right to vote from the whims of politicians

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This morning, Navigator Research released new polling that shows the Freedom to Vote Act is not only immensely popular but that the legislation is gaining in popularity, with net support for the legislation going from +35 in October 2021 to +41 in January 2022. This new polling comes as the Senate plans this week to take up the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act.

Despite the legislation enjoying widespread popularity among the American people, Republicans in the Senate are unanimously opposed to this legislation to safeguard our elections. The desire of the American people for meaningful voting rights reform is clear, and now is the time for Senate Republicans to listen to the will of their constituents and join with Democrats in Congress to pass the Freedom to Vote Act.

New polling from Navigator Research underscores the popularity of voting rights reform:

  • 63% of Americans support the Freedom to Vote Act.
    • 78% of Black Americans support the Freedom to Vote Act.
    • 69% of AAPI Americans support the Freedom to Vote Act.
    • 68% of Hispanic Americans support the Freedom to Vote Act.
    • 59% of White Americans support the Freedom to Vote Act.
  • 77% of Americans find the statement “federal protections of voting rights would guarantee [the right to vote] for all eligible citizens and protect it from the whims of state politicians or of either political party” a convincing reason to pass voting rights reform.
  • 76% of Americans find the statement “access to voting is a sacred right that is critical to making sure American democracy works, and federally protecting the right to vote gives all eligible Americans the same rights and protections” a convincing reason to pass voting rights reform.
  • 74% of Americans find the statement “many states have encouraged more people to vote for years, through things like mail-in voting, early voting, and same-day registration. Federal protection of voting rights would give everyone in the country the same kinds of opportunities to vote” a convincing reason to pass voting rights reform.
  • 72% of Americans find the statement “America’s founders and service members fought hard to protect our right to vote: federally protecting voting rights honors their work and sacrifices” a convincing reason to pass voting rights reform.
