ICYMI: NEW POLL SHOWS VOTERS FAVOR BUILD BACK BETTER AGENDA BY 30+ POINT MARGIN, NEARLY THREE IN FIVE SUPPORT RAISING DEBT CEILING
Two in three voters believe the Build Back Better Agenda is an urgent need
Voters are very concerned about potential job losses, delays in Social Security and VA benefits if the debt ceiling is not raised
Voters believe Republicans are more to blame if Congress fails to reach a deal to increase the national debt ceiling
Washington, D.C. — New polling from Navigator Research highlights the enduring popularity of the Build Back Better agenda with the American people and the overwhelming sense of urgency among the American people that the legislation is needed. 61 percent of voters support President Biden’s agenda, and 66 percent of voters believe passing the agenda is an urgent need. This newest polling is only the latest in extensive research showing that the Biden-Harris Administration’s plans to lower costs for working families by making priorities such as health care, child care, and prescription drugs more affordable while ensuring the wealthiest Americans making over $400,000 a year and big corporations finally pay their fair share are immensely popular.
The new polling also indicates that not only do nearly three in five Americans want to see Congress raise the debt ceiling, but that the public understands that Republicans are trying to score political points at the expense of American workers, seniors, veterans, and others.
Key highlights from the Navigator poll:
- “More than three in five [61 percent of] Americans continue to support President Biden’s Build Back Better economic proposal.”
- “In the context of needing to pass the spending bill in order to pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill, a majority of Americans [66 percent] say passing the spending bill is urgent, including 69% of independents.”
- “Independents and economically persuadable Americans*, much like Americans broadly, are most concerned about a loss of millions of jobs and a delay in Social Security and veterans’ benefits if Congress fails to raise the debt ceiling.”
