BUILDING BACK TOGETHER STATEMENT ON SCOTUS’ DECISION IN TEXAS SENATE BILL 4 CASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the Supreme Court’s decision in United States v. Texas, Building Back Together Executive Director Mayra Macías released the following statement:

“Today’s decision by conservatives on the Supreme Court is a dangerous one which opens the door to states violating the civil rights of everyday Americans and migrants alike, leads to further hardship and pain for families trying to work their way through our asylum system, creates difficulties for law enforcement at the border, and sows confusion for our state and federal courts.

“This decision, which overturns a century of precedent and threatens our federal government’s ability to regulate our borders, is further proof of the harm that MAGA politicians can do while blocking real, bipartisan solutions to our longstanding problems at our southern border.

“While MAGA politicians are focused on divisive and harmful laws like S.B.4, we continue to support the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to pass the bipartisan border security agreement, which contains the most comprehensive border reforms in decades, and encourage Congressional Republicans to return to the table to support these lasting solutions once and for all.”
