BUILDING BACK TOGETHER CELEBRATES EXPANSION OF HEALTH INSURANCE ACCESS FOR DACA RECIPIENTS

WASHINGTON — Today, the Biden-Harris Administration announced it is expanding access to health care for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients. The changes would remove barriers and provide essential health care coverage to hardworking DACA recipients.

“Today’s announcement underscores President Biden’s commitment and unequivocal support for Dreamers and DACA recipients. Once again, the Biden-Harris Administration is taking a bold step towards equity and inclusivity in health care access by ensuring that approximately 100,000 DACA recipients can enjoy the peace of mind and security that access to health care brings,” said Mayra Macías, Building Back Together Executive Director. “By expanding DACA recipients’ health care options, President Biden is reaffirming that health care is a fundamental right, and that everyone, including hardworking DACA recipients, deserves the opportunity and resources needed to live a healthy and fulfilling life.”

Today’s announced rule will allow an estimated 100,000 previously uninsured DACA recipients to gain access to health care coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace. Moreover, it would ensure DACA recipients are treated fairly and equitably under select Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) programs, further advancing President Biden’s commitment to health care accessibility for all.
