BUILDING BACK TOGETHER CELEBRATES 14 YEARS OF THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT

President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act has expanded on the ACA, helping millions of Americans save on premiums, obtain better care

WASHINGTON – Building Back Together Executive Director Mayra Macías released the following statement on the 14th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act:

“In the fourteen years since the Affordable Care Act was signed into law, Americans have watched their health care costs drop while access to quality care has greatly expanded. Thanks to the ACA, nearly 46 million more Americans have health coverage, and more than 100 million have crucial patient protections for pre-existing conditions. This law has also helped reduce racial disparities in health care coverage, with 1.3 million Black Americans and 2.6 million Latinos enrolling in health coverage through the ACA, and uninsurance rates consistently declining for both communities.

“Despite the millions of Americans that rely on the law’s protections, Republicans in Congress have doubled down on their fight to hike costs and rip away health care from those that depend on it the most. Their plans to repeal the ACA, slash Medicare and Medicaid, reverse recent coverage gains, and raise prescription drug prices would spell disaster for millions of hardworking families.

“The Biden-Harris Administration is committed to defending the Affordable Care Act against efforts by Congressional Republicans and their allies to raise costs and deny coverage for millions. Since signing the Inflation Reduction Act, President Biden has not only safeguarded protections in the ACA but expanded them, doubling ACA enrollment while taking on Big Pharma to allow Medicare to negotiate the cost of prescription drugs and requiring hospitals to allow patients to see prices for services before they get billed. Thanks to these efforts, hardworking families nationwide are seeing their health care costs cut, and more people than ever are signing up for coverage.”
