BUILDING BACK TOGETHER CELEBRATES 12 YEARS OF THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT

President Biden continues to fight for lower health care costs – including lowering prescription drug prices – for all Americans

ACA remains under threat from Congressional Republicans’ plans to repeal the law and jack up prices

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement on the 12-year anniversary of the Affordable Care Act:

“In the last 12 years, the Affordable Care Act expanded access to quality, affordable care for over 23 million Americans and established crucial protections for more than 100 million Americans with pre-existing conditions. President Biden has been a champion of the ACA since it became law when he was Vice President, and as President, he has fought to improve it – including through a historic expansion of the Affordable Care Act in his American Rescue Plan that lowered health care premiums and expanded Medicaid eligibility.

“While the Biden-Harris Administration is leading the fight to lower health care costs, including the price of prescription drugs, Republicans in Congress have doubled down on endangering Americans’ health care and jacking up premiums and costs for families. These Congressional Republicans have pledged to repeal the ACA, which would dramatically increase health care costs and eliminate coverage for millions of Americans, and have openly confirmed that they would do nothing to take on Big Pharma to lower prescription drug prices for American families.

“President Biden will always defend the ACA against these efforts by Congressional Republicans to rip away Americans’ health care coverage, and he will continue to work on behalf of all Americans to further lower costs and improve the quality of health care because health care should be a right, not a privilege.”
