BBT STATEMENT ON HISTORIC BUILD BACK BETTER FRAMEWORK

President Biden Announces Transformative Investments to Rebuild America’s Middle Class, Fully Paid for By Making Ultra-Wealthy and Corporations Pay Their Fair Share

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi released the following statement on President Biden’s announcement of a transformational framework to rebuild the middle class:

“Today, President Biden announced a Build Back Better Framework that will deliver a historic win for the American people by lowering everyday costs, providing middle-class tax cuts, and making a once-in-a-generation investment in our nation’s future. These advancements represent the biggest effort to tackle the climate crisis in history, extend the expanded Child Tax Credit for millions of families, strengthen the Affordable Care Act to cut health care costs for millions of Americans, and provide cost-savings in childcare and caregiving, as well as add two years of free school with the creation of universal preschool. President Biden’s framework will also invest in immigration reform and improve our immigration system by reducing backlogs, expanding access to legal representation, and ensuring the system is more efficient and humane.

The President came into office promising to find common ground and he has delivered. This transformative framework will grow our economy from the bottom up and middle out to benefit everyone — not just those at the top. Importantly, the President has kept his promise to pay for his plans without raising taxes on any American making less than $400,000 a year by ensuring the ultra-wealthy and large corporations finally pay their fair share.

We urge Congress to act swiftly on this historic framework and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal to ensure that every American has the security, opportunity, and freedom to thrive as we build our nation back better under the Biden-Harris Administration.”
