Six-figure campaign communicates positive impact of student loan relief for young Black and Latino communities

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Building Back Together is announcing a six-figure ad campaign celebrating President Biden’s recent action delivering student loan relief for millions of Americans, particularly working and middle class borrowers. As the president announced last week, borrowers who took out loans to pursue post-high school education – from college and community college to trade and vocational schools – and are now making less than $125,000 a year will see their loans reduced by up to $10,000, and up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients.

BBT’s new ad campaign thanks President Biden for taking action to provide relief to millions of Americans, and communicates the impact of this decision through tailored ads for young Black and Latino audiences, respectively. The digital ads will run on a variety of cultural and entertainment platforms that serve Black and Latino communities, especially youth of color, such as Mitú, Black With No Chaser, and more.

“President Biden is fighting to ensure all students can pursue opportunity without the burden of crushing debt,” said Building Back Together Executive Director Danielle Melfi. “Thanks to his actions, nearly half of all federal student loan borrowers will be eligible to have their debt completely eliminated, including 1 in 4 Black borrowers and 1 in 3 Latino borrowers. This is a gamechanger, and will open up opportunities for so many people to achieve their American dream. President Biden is building an economy from the bottom up and the middle out – this historic action is further proof of that.”

This ad campaign builds on more than $35 million in spending to date from Building Back Together highlighting the positive impacts of President Biden’s agenda. Recently, BBT launched a major campaign celebrating the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, also featuring tailored messaging for communities of color. This summer, BBT launched campaigns highlighting the president’s work to deliver the most significant, bipartisan gun safety legislation in decades, and how President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is securing clean drinking water and investing in public transportation in communities across the country.
